🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Are Going Mainstream This Season The game developers has a special treat in store for the popular battle royale players, arriving just in time for the holidays. Enthusiasts of the battle royale's super-slick movement will be pleased to discover that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when Season 27: Amped launches on Nov. 4. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this ability provides gamers a surge of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. As explained key developer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of Apex Legends for quite a while, usually referred to as "mantle jumping." But it's challenging for casual gamers, and is mainly used by pro gamers in competitive play or esports competitions. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for players of all skill levels to successfully perform these advanced speed-boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for some time, but the movement requires skill to pull off and gamers might not realize it's possible without outside knowledge," the designer states. "Now including a visual cue so users can easily see when and how to trigger the fast-paced traversal skill, opening up the mechanic and adding new ways to play for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a once niche technique accessible to all players? Lead Legend designer the development lead says the team wants gamers to experience empowerment — including ones who are inexperienced. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we examined at other games, looked at what our players execute, and we said, 'How can we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan explains. "Since right now, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to access — it requires to change controls and hit one-frame windows. We proposed, 'How about we make a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Movement is primarily the name of the game in this season, with characters the gravity mage, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting enhancements to maintain them mobile. The cooldown period on her tactical ability has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will propel users upward faster than before. Rampart's Amped Cover feature a roof and capability to provide speed boosts to allies in range. However the spotlight is on the high-flying this Legend receiving significant improvements this season, with multiple tweaks implemented to enhance her as more potent, quicker, and deadlier. "In my opinion many agree that Valkyrie's time is here," states Legend designer the designer. "There's no doubt that she's been dominant in the past, but with the introduction of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she fell behind in current Apex. This presented an ideal chance for the team to revisit a bunch of aspects in her abilities and sort of bring her back to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, the developer says Respawn assessed all her skills and implemented significant changes. Her jetpack have been upgraded, boosting her speed while airborne, and the jets themselves now recharge three times faster, allowing the player to spend more time aloft. She can no longer be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to mark enemies who are hit from the missiles. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts her entire squad into the air for redeployment or retreat — now takes much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can select to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or accelerate her ultimate takeoff time. "Her jet pack now delivers on the pilot experience," he says. Olympus Improvements Additionally, the only floating arena, this location, is getting a mobility-focused facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands bottlenecks and makes claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. Respawn says the game Season 27 focuses on providing gamers the resources required to compete in the competition. "Really, we were looking at Apex's fundamental nature as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends Season 27: Amped launches Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
