Champions League Fixtures Tonight: Chelsea v Barcelona & Additional Games

Welcome to another evening of electrifying Champions League soccer. 9 fixtures are set for this evening, with three British clubs in action. The Blues face Barcelona in the key fixture of the evening, whilst Newcastle travel to the French side and Manchester City welcome Leverkusen.

Current Standings

It's the halfway point of the league stage, meaning the table is beginning to form. All six English sides are currently in the upper twelve, but there are only two points between 5th and sixteenth position, thus there's a whiff of snakes and ladders about the entire situation. Everything is to play for.

Past Meetings

The only previous meeting involving Marseille and Newcastle was the Uefa Cup semifinal of 2004, won by an rising star from Côte d'Ivoire. Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City have never met before. Chelsea and Barcelona have a peedie bit of history.

Early Match Updates

Only a single goal during the opening period of the early fixtures. Dahl's 6th-minute goal has earned Jose Mourinho’s Benfica a one-nil lead away to Ajax.

Newcastle’s Trip to Marseille

Although Newcastle traveled to the French south coming off their restorative 2-1 home English top-flight victory against Manchester City on the weekend, and having defeated Union Saint-Gilloise, the Portuguese side and Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League, their sole away victory since the start of April came in Brussels at Union SG.

Not that Eddie Howe was overly keen to talk about the mental side of this away form issue. “The European Cup is distinct from domestic games,” said the manager, whose side are sixth in the European table, with 9 pts from a available 12 and automatic qualification to the last 16 almost within touching distance. “I am not sure if you can draw parallels between them.”

A dedicated live feed is available for Barcelona vs Chelsea. Murray, the MBM version of Maradona is handling for that.
